Unitarian Chapel Event On Sunday 20th November Interfaith Week was celebrated at Kendal Unitarian Chapel. An Interfaith Service led by Interfaith Minister Rev Mandy Reynolds (SLIF South Lakeland Interfaith Forum Treasurer), included readings and prayers from and representatives of local faith communities and faith organizations. BGKT Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada) was represented by Upasaka Sumedha (BGKT Treasurer) and Jacquetta Gomes Bodhicarini Upasika Jayasili (BGKT Secretary). Upasaka Sumedha gave a reading.

SLEDP Event South Lakeland Equality and Diversity Partnership (SLEDP) presented a talk by Monsignor Francis Slattery on Interfaith on Thursday 17th November at The Kendal Quaker Friends Meeting House. The talk led to an interesting discussion on interfaith. SLEDP member Jacquetta Gomes Bodhicarini Upasika Jayasili gave a short talk on BEWES Buddhists Engaged with Emergency Services and Faith and Fire. The Deputy Mayor of Kendal Councillor Andy Blackman attended.
SLIF South Lakeland Interfaith Forum Event. The Deputy Mayor of Kendal Councillor Andy Blackman, joined SLIF South Lakeland Interfaith for a celebration in Kendal Town Hall on Tuesday 15 November. Readings were given by the Deputy Mayor and local faith groups. A booklet of readings was prepared by SLIF.

Venerable Pidiville Piyatissa (Head of Ketumati Buddhist Vihara Manchester) led a retreat for BGKT Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada) on 31 July 2016.

The Rev Canon Dr Andrew Todd the Director of The Cardiff Centre for Chaplaincy Studies Centre visited Kendal on 11 July 2016. The visit was organized by The Cardiff Centre and Faith and Fire of which he is a member of the Steering Group. BGKT Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada) Secretary Jacquetta Gomes is also a member of the Steering Group. In the morning he met a Councillor who represented Kendal Town Council. He led an afternoon session for local Chaplains on behalf of Faith and Fire in the Community room at Kendal Fire Station. In the evening he gave a public talk at Kendal Stricklandgate Methodist Church about the Cardiff Centre’s research and work with chaplains in different settings to offer a picture of chaplaincy today – its scope, purpose and range of people involved in and served by chaplaincy. He also spoke about the changing face of religion, belief and spirituality in the life of our society.

Kendal Civic Celebration for Mayor’s Sunday led by The Worshipful the Town Mayor Councillor Stephen Coleman on Sunday 3 July 2016, included an invitation from the Mayor to SLIF South Lakeland Interfaith Forum and faith groups in Kendal. Jacquetta Gomes Bodhicarini Upasika Jayasili represented BGKT Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada). She walked in the Civic Procession from the Town Hall to The Parish Church of the Holy Trinity for the Civic Service. Refreshments were served in the Mayors Parlour in Kendal Town Hall afterwards.
